Mark Westbrook - Biography

Mark Westbrook (ARTISTIC DIRECTOR)

A former banana packer, demolitions worker, prison teacher, university lecturer and conservatory acting tutor, Mark trained at the RSAMD and the Atlantic Theater Company’s Acting School.  He also studied at various universities, but don't hold that against him.

His directing credits include The Dawn, Misterman and Matroyshka (The Arches) Spoonface Steinberg (Tron and Scottish Tour), Broken Biscuits (Scottish Tour), Tandem (Salisbury Playhouse), Oleanna (Foyle Arts Centre), Romeo and Juliet (Parnassos Theater), Rescuers Speaking (Scottish Tour) and Caesar-63 (Riverside).  Mark is a recipient of an Arts Trust of Scotland Award and the Avron Greenbaum Players Award for Direction.

Mark has written a children’s musical as an ACNI commission and a television documentary about Jesse James. He has written several short plays. Mark has recently directed his first full length play 'The Emotional Life of Furniture' for SPARTAN at the Tron Theatre in October 2008.  He will direct Philip Larkin's new play '*Excludes Northern Ireland'.

Mark is one of the UK's foremost acting coaches.
